YOR: S119-SOP

November

2024

Yor faced some significant challenges this past year. Unfortunately, she was unable to pass the second grade primarily due to the excessive responsibilities she had at home, which made it difficult for her to attend school regularly. On top of that, she experienced complications from  (FGM) that further affected her ability to attend classes consistently. These struggles took a toll on her, but despite all of this, Yor has shown incredible resilience. Now, feeling much better, Yor is back in school and determined to succeed. She told us that writing is her favorite subject, and despite her quiet and shy nature, she is a dedicated student who works hard to improve. Her teachers have also acknowledged her hardworking attitude, noting that she always does her best, even when she’s faced with personal challenges. We’re incredibly proud of Yor for her perseverance and courage. It’s inspiring to see her back on her feet and committed to her education. We’re confident that with her determination, she will continue to make progress and achieve great things in the years to come. Sponsored by: Dennis & Claudia Naidl

Yor was promoted to the 2nd grade! She has been re-enrolled into school for the 2023/2024 school year. During our interview, she was a little shy at the beginning but by the end she was all smiles. She had a great school year and was one of the classroom cleaner. She would arrive early and stay late to clean up the class. She still wants to be a doctor when she grows up and continues to live with her great-grandmother. Sponsored by: Dennis & Claudia Naidl

Thanks to the generous donation from Dennis and Claudia Naidl, Yor has been re-enrolled into school for the 2019/2020 school year.  Please note: Yor was unable to attend the back to school distribution as she was in the “society bush” for FGM.  However, her school materials were left with the school to be given to her upon her return.

Meet Yor Messiah, who has been generously sponsored by Lea Hall.  She is 7 years old and is going to school for the first time this year in ABC. Yor lives in Sopea Town, Liberia with her great-grandmother. Two years ago, Yor’s mother died while in childbirth.  Her great-grandmother could not afford to send Yor to school. Her interests are helping her great-grandmother to cook and she hopes to be a doctor when she grows up.
