Winifred passed to the sixth grade this year and continues to work hard despite the challenges she faces at home. She lives with both of her parents, who struggle financially, and she helps with daily chores while staying committed to her education. Winifred shared that she feels happy to continue in school and is motivated by her family’s support. She hopes to keep improving in her lessons and dreams of becoming a nurse one day so she can help others. She is grateful for GPA’s continued support with school fees and materials, which allows her to stay in school and move forward into her new grade with confidence.

Meet Winifred, who has been generously sponsored by Elizabeth Buerger. She is 11 years old and is in the 1st grade this year. She lives in Zolowee, Liberia with her mother. Winifred’s uncle told the Girl Power Africa team during the interview: “The father had 6 children with my sister and abandoned all of them with my sister and walked away, leaving my sister to suffer with the children. He met a new woman and dashed my sister. It’s just not right.” Her interests are cooking and she hopes to be a cook when she grows up. Winifred and her sister, Grace, are extremely grateful to have been blessed with an opportunity to go to school.
