Precious is 9 years old and is now in fourth grade after passing third grade. She shared that Girl Power Africa’s support has helped her stay in school by providing her school materials, and she is excited to keep learning and move forward. Precious said her goal is to be promoted to the next class, and she stays motivated by her mother. She also helps at home by cooking and cleaning, and she hopes to become a nurse one day so she can help take care of others.

Precious is six years old and in first grade. She lives with her subsistence farming parents and five siblings. A couple of years ago Precious’ parents asked her uncle to allow Precious to live with his family. Sending children to school is often a shared responsibility among extended family members. When parents cannot afford to send all their children to school, an extended family member who is better off can be requested to take in a family member to send them to school. This happened in the case of Precious, but her uncle died two months ago. Our GPA “family” has stepped in. Precious wants to be a nurse one day and is grateful for the gift of a scholarship.
