Patricia is now 11 years old. This year, after a reassessment was conducted at her school, it was determined that she needed to return to the first grade to build stronger learning foundations. While this decision was disappointing for her, Patricia has shown courage and maturity by promising to try much harder and stay focused on her education. She continues to face personal challenges at home, but she has not given up. Patricia still holds onto hope for a better future and understands that this extra time in school can help her grow stronger academically. Her determination to keep going, even when things are difficult, shows her resilience and inner strength. With continued support and encouragement, Patricia is working toward improvement and remains thankful for the opportunity to keep learning. Sponsored by: Joyce Jorgensen

Patricia faced a difficult year, as her father, suffering from dementia, has been living on the streets. This challenging situation affected her ability to focus on her studies, and as a result, she was unable to pass. Despite the hardships, Patricia remains hopeful and determined. She has promised herself and others that she will work hard and do better in the coming year. Her strength and resolve during such tough times are a testament to her resilience. Patricia was promoted to first grade! It’s so rewarded to see our students, like Patricia, blossom each year in confidence during our yearly interviews. She was all smiles, excited, and very grateful. She still resides with her parents and has decided she wants to become a nurse one day. Sponsored by: Joyce Jorgensen

Meet Patricia, who has been generously sponsored by Joyce Jorgensen on behalf of the estate of Dennis Valstad. She is 5 years old and is going to school for the first time in ABC. She lives in Sehyi Geh, Liberia with her mother and father. Her father whose liver is failing due to excessive drinking, is unable to provide for his family. Her interests are playing with her wooden doll which was made by her father from a palm branch, and she has not decided what she hopes to be when she grows up.
