Marie has been promoted to the 4th grade. English is her favorite subject, and she is a very shy girl. Although she’s still a bit reserved, she’s making great strides in overcoming her shyness and is beginning to feel more confident in herself. Sponsored by: The Bablitch/Kelch Philanthropy Fund

Marie was good at answering questions during our update interview! It was a delight to talk with her and note her growth in confidence. Marie loves science but she had the highest-grade mark in handwriting and was promoted to 2nd grade class. She still wants to be a tailor when she grows up. Sponsored by: Donations from General Funds

Thanks to the generous donation from Eugene Schmeling, Marie has been re-enrolled into school for the 2021/2022 school year. She received an incomplete for the 2020/2021 school year. Due to COVID-19 outbreak, schools in Liberia had irregular school schedule. This combined with the lack of technology in the schools, some schools made the decision to keep students in their current grade level for the 2021-2022 school year. Marie was kept in her current grade level of 1st grade for the upcoming school year. She continues to live with her father and still wants to be a tailor when she grows up.

Meet Marie, who has been generously sponsored by an Anonymous donor (Mohamad). She is 9 years old and is in the 1st grade this year. She lives in Zorgowee, Liberia with her parents. Her father fell from a palm tree and is disabled. Her mother is a farmer but doesn’t make enough money to support her family. Her interests are playing with her friends, and she hopes to be a tailor when she grows up.
