Lorpu was promoted to the fifth grade this year, despite facing many hardships. She has been bounced from family to family, but through it all, she remains determined to continue her education. She’s back in the Girl Power Africa program and very grateful for another opportunity. Math is her favorite subject, and though she’s a bit shy in class, her teachers have noticed that her self-esteem and confidence are starting to grow. Lorpu works hard in all her lessons, always striving to do her best. She is incredibly grateful for the opportunity to attend school and is beginning to see the value of her hard work. Lorpu’s resilience and gratitude inspire those around her, and she’s showing that with perseverance, she can overcome any obstacle. Sponsored by: Julie Hunt

Meet Lorpu, who has been generously sponsored by An anonymous donor (GB). She is 8 years old and is in the K-2 this year. She lives in Sanniquellie, Liberia with her grandmother’s friend. Lorpu’s mother and father abandoned her when she was about 3 years old. She has been living with her grandmother. Unfortunately, her grandmother passed away about 3 months ago and she was taken in by her grandmother’s friend. Lorpu hopes to be a teacher when she grows up.
**Please note: Lorpu’s hair was shaved off due to the following reason: In some parts of Liberia, women, especially first daughters and wives, are known to shave off their heads when grieving their husbands, mothers, fathers and grandparent’s death, as a sign of respect to the dead and as a new beginning. Lorpu’s grandmother passed away 3 months ago.
