Thanks to the generous donation from Nancy Kokkonen, Lorena has been re-enrolled into school for the 2021/2022 school year. She received an incomplete for the 2020/2021 school year. Due to COVID-19 outbreak, schools in Liberia had irregular school schedules. This combined with the lack of technology in the schools, some schools made the decision to keep students in their current grade level for the 2021/2022 school year. Lorena was kept in her current grade level of K-1 grade for the upcoming school year. She continues to live with her grandmother and still wants to be a mechanic when she grows up.

Meet Lorena, who has been generously sponsored by Nancy Kokkonen – Thrivent. She is 7 years old and is in the K-1 grade this year. She lives in Boapea, Liberia with her grandmother. Both of her parents abandoned her. Her father stole the town’s money and ran off to an unknown village. Shortly after that, her mother abandoned her due to hardship. Thankfully, her grandmother has taken her in. Her interests are playing with friends and she hopes to be a mechanic when she grows up.
