Thanks to the generous donation from Julie Berndt, Kou has been re-enrolled into school for the 2021/2022 school year. She received an incomplete for the 2020/2021 school year. Due to COVID-19 outbreak, schools in Liberia had irregular school schedule. This combined with the lack of technology in the schools, some schools made the decision to keep students in their current grade level for the 2021/2022 school year. Kou was kept in her current grade level of 2nd grade for the upcoming school year. She continues to live with her grandfather and still wants to be a teacher when she grows up.

Meet Kou, who has been generously sponsored by Julie Berndt. She is 8 years old and is in the 2nd grade this year. She lives in Gbeleyee Town, Liberia with her grandfather. Her parents were both teenagers when she was conceived. Her father left after she was born and the mother abandoned her and left her with her grandfather. Kou’s interests are helping her grandmother cook and she hopes to be a teacher when she grows up.
