Mercy is now 19 years old and has been promoted to the 8th grade this year. We could not be prouder of this remarkable young woman. Over the past year, Mercy gave birth to a beautiful baby boy, yet she never allowed motherhood to stop her from pursuing her education. Even while pregnant, she continued completing her assignments, attending school regularly, and staying committed to her lessons. Her determination paid off—she successfully passed to the next grade level. Balancing school and caring for a newborn is no small task, but Mercy has handled it with strength, maturity, and grace. She remains a hardworking and focused student, determined to build a better future for herself and her son. Her perseverance is a powerful example of resilience and dedication. Mercy specifically wanted to share a heartfelt thank you to her sponsor for giving her a chance, even during her pregnancy. Knowing she was still supported meant everything to her. That encouragement gave her the confidence and motivation to keep pushing forward. Mercy’s journey is inspiring, and we are excited to see her continue to grow, achieve, and move closer to her dreams.

This year was a challenging one for Grace. After being promoted to the 7th grade last year, she was unfortunately unable to move on to the next grade level. According to her teacher, Grace was sick for several months during the school year, which caused her to fall behind in her lessons. Because of the time she missed, the school made the decision to keep her in the 7th grade so she can build a stronger academic foundation before advancing. Although Grace was understandably disappointed, she showed great maturity and understanding. She knows the decision was made in her best interest and is determined to come back stronger this year. She remains a very serious and focused student—her illness was something she simply could not control. Grace continues to carry heavy responsibilities at home. She still wakes up early to fetch water from the well for her family and helps with chores after school. Despite these daily demands, her dream of becoming a doctor has not changed. In fact, this setback has only strengthened her resolve to work harder and push forward. Most of all, Grace is deeply grateful for the opportunity to have another chance at school. She understands how easily this opportunity could have been lost, and she does not take it for granted. With her resilience and determination, we are confident she will overcome this temporary setback and continue moving toward her dream. Thank you for standing beside Grace and giving her the support she needs to keep going. Sponsored by: D’Anna Freiberg

Grace, a resilient 12-year-old, achieved a promotion to the sixth grade, edging closer to her dream of becoming a doctor. Despite her young age, she shoulders significant responsibilities, beginning her day before dawn to fetch water from the well for various household needs. After school, she dutifully assists her family by preparing dinner. Her favorite dish is Palm Butter Soup, a rich and creamy West African dish made from palm fruit extract, cooked with meats, vegetables, and spices, often served over rice or alongside fufu for a hearty and flavorful meal. Grace’s unwavering determination and willingness to contribute to her family’s well-being shows her character, and is illuminating a path of resilience and ambition amidst daily challenges. Seven-year-old Grace was promoted to Kindergarten-2! She has been generously re-sponsored by Stacy Peters. She hopes to be a doctor when she grows up. With less than 500 doctors serving a population of 4.5 million people, Liberian households often experience fatalities due to treatable illnesses.  Children aspiring to become doctors is a worthy cause.
