8-year-old Girl has a new name! Evelyn! GPA reps were told her name was changed to Evelyn “due to family issues”. No doubt, a name like Girl in school might cause a few giggles among her fellow classmates. Evelyn is pleased with her new name and is now in kindergarten-2 class. Her single mother extends thanks to GPA for the scholarship and school supplies and for the extra support of much needed medicines which helps to keep GPA sponsored students healthy. Thanks to the generous donation from James Barker, Girl has been re-enrolled into school for the 2021/2022 school year. She received an incomplete for the 2020/2021 school year. Due to COVID-19 outbreak, schools in Liberia had irregular school schedule. This combined with the lack of technology in the schools, some schools made the decision to keep students in their current grade level for the 2021/2022 school year. Girl was kept in her current grade level of K-1 grade for the upcoming school year. She continues to live with her mother and still wants to be a teacher when she grows up.

Meet Girl, who has been generously sponsored by James Barker. She is 6 years old and is in the K-1 grade this year. She lives in Borsonnor Town, Liberia with her mother. Her father died in 2015 during the Ebola crisis in Liberia but her mother was never told the reason for her husband’s sudden death. Girl’s interests are going to school and she hopes to be a teacher when she grows up.
