Cecelia had a double promotion this year and is now in the 1st grade! Cecelia’s desire to be a nurse is driven by the tragic, treatable accident that rendered her father paralyzed. Her father was treated with traditional medicine (herbal remedies) because the nearest health center was far away. Her father often says, “if only I had gone to get proper treatment…..”. 8-year-old Cecelia is promoted to first grade, one step closer to realizing her dream of being a nurse one day. Thanks to the generous donation from Meicher Family Charitable Foundation, Cecelia has been re-enrolled into school for the 2021/2022 school year. She received an incomplete for the 2020/2021 school year. Due to COVID-19 outbreak, schools in Liberia had irregular school schedule. This combined with the lack of technology in the schools, some schools made the decision to keep students in their current grade level for the 2021/2022 school year. Cecelia was kept in her current grade level of K-1 grade for the upcoming school year. She continues to live with her father and still wants to be a nurse when she grows up.
