Alice is promoted to the third grade and still lives with her mother and wants to be a beautician one day. At eleven years old, Alice is braiding hair in her community for a modest fee. The income helps out with provision of food for the family. Alice’s favorite subject is writing, and she is excited about another opportunity to draw her closer to achieving her dream of graduating from high school. Meet Alice, who has been generously sponsored by Meicher Family Charitable Foundation. She is 9 years old and in the 1st grade this year. She lives in Gbeleyee Town, Liberia with her mother. Her father was disabled and due to his disability and mental health, his family abandoned him. Sadly, he ended up dying due to starvation. During her interview, Alice told our Girl Power Africa team: “My papa die sorrowful way oh… He was in the streets with no food. I used to go sit by him. But my ma will get vex (angry) with me”. Her interests are braiding hair and she hopes to be a beautician when she grows up.
