Malaria Medication is a Necessary School Supply

At Girl Power Africa, we’re proud to provide anti-malaria medication to over 500 children every year as part of their sponsorship package. Malaria is a serious health threat in Liberia, and sadly, we’ve lost many students to this preventable disease. But, with the support of our sponsors, we are saving lives.

“It’s hard to learn when you’re sick and run down from malaria,” said Bulleh when she brought the idea to the GPA Board in February 2021. For two years, we have been including anti-malaria medicine as part of the standard student sponsorship package, ensuring that each student gets a shot at a healthy and productive school year.

Malaria is caused by parasites transmitted through mosquito bites, and children in Liberia are particularly vulnerable due to limited access to healthcare. By including anti-malaria medication in our children’s sponsored education package, we’re taking a proactive approach to protect our students’ health and well-being.

April 25, 2023 was World Malaria Day. We recognized this day by asking our community to join us in the fight against malaria and help us make a lasting change in the lives of these children through sponsorship.

Together, we can prevent unnecessary suffering and empower these young minds to thrive!
