Comfort is now placed in the first grade. She shared that she was unable to complete last school year due to frequent illness but feels very happy to be back in school. Math is her favorite subject, and she is determined to work hard and catch up. Comfort lives with her mother, who is her main support, and helps at home with daily chores when she is well. She shared that Girl Power Africa’s support with school fees and materials encourages her to keep learning and gives her hope for the future. Sponsored by: Laura Stoller

Note to Sponsor:

This year in Liberia, many public schools conducted a reassessment of students. Based on the results, some children—including your sponsored student—were placed in a lower grade or asked to repeat a grade to better match their current learning level. This adjustment is not due to any wrongdoing or lack of effort—it is simply to ensure they are in the grade where they can learn, grow, and succeed with confidence. Thank you for your continued support and understanding.

Comfort was promoted to the second grade this year, and though she’s a reserved and quiet student, she continues to shine in her own way. She told us that writing is her favorite subject, and her teacher speaks highly of her dedication and hard work. Despite her shyness, Comfort is always on time for school and takes great care in being neatly dressed, which shows her sense of responsibility and pride in her appearance. Comfort has been dealing with an eye infection that hasn’t gone away, but she’s managing it with resilience. Her teachers are impressed by her ability to focus on her studies and continue performing well despite the challenges she faces. Comfort’s hardworking attitude and quiet determination make her a special student, and we’re so proud of how she’s handling everything with grace. She is truly a model of perseverance. Ten-year-old Comfort’s mother is a widow. Comfort’s father died when she was five years old and left behind six children.  Her mother was buckling under the pressure of acquiring resources to send her children to school.  It’s moms like Comfort’s that GPA seek out to encourage and support.  What her mother lacks in financial resources she more than makes up by hustling petty job opportunities to gain income for her family.  Comfort is in kindergarten class, and she wants to be a seamstress when she grows up.  Sponsored by: Laura Stoller
