Helena was promoted to the first grade this year. Although she was unable to attend the school distribution, her materials were left with the school principal, who shared that Helena is doing extremely well in school. Helena was also elected her class secretary this year, a testament to her leadership skills and hard work. Seven-year-old Helena hopes to be a business woman when she grows up.  In a country like Liberia where job opportunities are scarce, many people turn to petty trading or “business” to earn a livelihood.  Helena lives with her single mother and five siblings.  Only two of Helena’s four siblings are in school because her mother cannot afford the fees.
