SERENA: E206-DUA

2017:

RECIPIENT: Serena Goah – Age 30

EMPOWERED BY: Monica Engel

Serena Goah is a 30-year-old mother of two who graduated from high school a few years ago. Since graduation, she has been unable to find a job to support herself and her children. Serena and her children moved to a new neighborhood about a year ago in search of a better life. Serena told Girl Power that, for survival, she buys 4-5 cups of popcorn daily and pops it, bags it and then sells them by walking to the various neighboring schools, where she sells the bagged popcorn to the students during their recess.  From the sale of the popcorn, Serena makes about 100 LD ($1.00 USD) profit. This is the money she uses to purchase more popcorn to pop and to feed her family for the day. This is a photo of Serena and her children receiving their new supply of selling goods to successfully start her new business.
