Edith, her husband and their 9 children were living in Monrovia when her husband got seriously sick. He was taken to a herbalist up country for treatment as the hospital told the family that it was an illness that they (the hospital) was unable to treat with modern medicine. Soon after arriving up country, her husband passed way. Edith’s older son, who was about 25 years old at the time, told his mom not to worry. He was going to take care of the family. But after about one year of him doing his best for the family, without a stable employment, he left them with a lady at their church to go search for employment. It’s been about 5 a year since he left them. Edith has been living at the mercy of the lady. But, as Edith told me, (through a translator as she doesn’t speak very much English), “things are hard all over. You can’t put all your trouble on one person. I am begging you, Old Ma, to please help me, so I can sell and send my children to school.” These are photos of Edith receiving her new supply of selling goods to now be able to successfully start her very own business.
