Winifred Gono is a bright fourth grader whose highest marks come from her favorite subject, science. Her teacher describes her as an exceptional student who excels whenever she’s in the classroom. After losing her father, Winifred now lives with her mother and stepfather, and though she deeply misses her father’s love and guidance, her stepfather’s hostility often creates tension at home. As a result, school has become Winifred’s cherished haven—a place where she can explore her passions, nurture her dreams, and find the encouragement she needs to flourish. . Sponsored by: Kona Bahr

Winifred was promoted to second grade and still desires to be a teacher when she grows up. Her favorite subject is reading and she still lives with her mother and enjoys helping her mother with household and gardening chores. Meet Winifred, who has been generously sponsored by Lori Fischer Hall. She is 11 years old and is in the 1st grade this year. She lives in Gbeleyee Town, Liberia with her mother. Winifred’s father passed away when her mother was pregnant with her. She has been on the Girl Power Africa school waiting list for 2 years. Unfortunately, her sister Benetta, S636-GBL, passed away few months ago from cancer. Winifred came to ask our Girl Power Africa team if she could replace her sister sponsorship, since her sister had passed away. Of course, we said yes, with tears in our eyes. Her interests are helping her mom and she hopes to be a teacher when she grows up.
