SUSANNA: S124-SAN

November

2023

Susanna has moved up to the sixth grade, bringing her one step closer to her aspiration of becoming a beautician. She remains in the care of her mother as she continues her academic journey. Susanna’s progress this year is notable; her teacher highlights her active participation in class discussions, indicating her thriving academic engagement.

Beyond the classroom, Susanna shoulders significant responsibilities at home. Each morning, she diligently draws water from the well to fulfill her family’s bathing and cooking needs. Rising as early as 4 am, she makes multiple trips back and forth to the well, ensuring an ample supply of water before the rest of the household wakes up. Susanna’s dedication to both her studies and her family exemplifies her resilience and strong work ethic.

Susanna was promoted to fifth grade! She has been re-enrolled into school for the 2022/2023 school year. Her favorite subject is math and she enjoys school a lot. She’s made some great friends and is very grateful for this opportunity.  She continues to reside with her mother and dreams of becoming a beautician one day. Sponsored by: Paula Brakke

We are pleased to announce that Susanna was promoted to 1st grade for the 2018/2019 school year. Jean Glennon, thank you for your sponsorship and for giving your student a gift of education. Her favorite pastime is cooking each night for her family. Cooking in the village requires a lot of “props”.  You must fetch water from a well or a nearby running stream, containerize it in the outdoor kitchen, carefully wash whatever you are cooking and then proceed to “prepare” the materials for cooking (like chopping the greens, egg plants, yams, etc.). Then comes the seasoning and placing in the pot. Most Liberian meals are stews eaten with rice. We are proud of Susanna’s hard work both in and out of school.

Ten-year-old Susanna was promoted to Kindergarten-1! Thanks to the generous donation from Jean Glennon, Susanna was re-sponsored this year.  Susanna lives in Sanniquellie, Liberia with her mother and she continues to want to be a beautician when she grows up. Each morning Susanna wakes early to get water from the well for her family. Access to water is limited in villages like Sanniquellie. One has to walk to a nearby well, creek or flowing stream to fetch water in a bucket and head tote it back to their house.
