SAM: S461-NEW

Sam failed first grade this year, not because he’s not hardworking. He truly tries his best, but he has a disability that makes it difficult for him to learn at a quicker pace. His disability impacts his ability to keep up with the pace of the class. In a school system like Liberia’s, where everyone is expected to be on the same page, it can be tough for Sam to catch up. There’s not a lot of extra support for children in his situation. Despite this, Sam is a joy to have around. He has a constant smile and a great attitude, making him a delightful presence in the class, even though he faces challenges with learning and speech. Sponsored by: Laurie Teubert

Sam has been promoted to the first grade! During our interview, he was over the moon with excitement, proudly declaring that he is now officially “a big kid!” because he’s in the 1st grade. Sam has a bright spirit and a love for school. He continues to live with his father and dreams of becoming a nurse one day. Sponsored by: Laurie Teubert

Thanks to the generous donation from Laurie Teubert, Sam has been re-enrolled into school for the 2021/2022 school year. He received an incomplete for the 2020/2021 school year. Due to COVID-19 outbreak, schools in Liberia had irregular school schedule. This combined with the lack of technology in the schools, some schools made the decision to keep students in their current grade level for the 2021/2022 school year. Sam was kept in his current grade level of K-1 grade for the upcoming school year. He continues to live with his father and still wants to be a nurse when he grows up.
