Oneka was promoted to the fifth grade this year, and she continues to persevere despite the challenges she faces at home. Living with her aunt, Oneka takes on many household responsibilities, including cooking, cleaning, and drawing water from the nearby creek—about 10 gallons every day—to ensure her family has what they need. Even with all this work, Oneka remains committed to her education and is doing her absolute best in school. Her favorite subject is spelling, where she continues to excel and shine. Seventeen-year-old Oneka proudly advanced to the 4th grade! Despite facing challenges in the past, she has been diligently working to catch up with her peers who are the same age as her. After school, she devotes much of her time to studying, seeking additional support from her older cousin who serves as her tutor. Meet Olinkeh (Oneka), who has been generously sponsored by Jurga Jokimciute. She is 12 years old and, in the kindergarten, -2 this year. Oneka is an orphan who lives in Gbobayee, Liberia with her unemployed aunt. Her interests are going to school, and she hopes to be a doctor when she grows up.
