10-year-old Marthaline is noted for her exceptional ability to recite her alphabets, songs, poems, and numbers! She takes pride in this gift and has great classroom participation and interaction. Marthaline was ill during a portion of the school year, but she still managed to pass to kindergarten. Sponsored by: Donations from General Funds
Thanks to the generous donation from Joyce Jorgensen, Marthaline has been re-enrolled into school for the 2021/2022 school year. She received an incomplete for the 2020-2021 school year. Due to COVID-19 outbreak, schools in Liberia had irregular school schedule. This combined with the lack of technology in the schools, some schools made the decision to keep students in their current grade level for the 2021-2022 school year. Marthaline was kept in her current grade level of K1 grade for the upcoming school year. She continues to live with her grandmother and still wants to be a teacher when she grows up.
Meet Marthaline, who has been generously sponsored by Joyce Jorgensen on behalf of the estate of Dennis Valstad. She is 8 years old and is in the K-1 grade this year. She lives in Sehyi Geh, Liberia with her grandmother. Marthaline’s mother died in childbirth 3 years ago. After her death, Marthaline’s grandmother took all 4 of her grandchildren to raise. Unfortunately, the grandmother is unemployed and is finding it diffitcult to support she and the 4 children. Her interests are cooking and she hopes to be a teacher when she grows up.
