Marie is now 15 years old and was promoted to the sixth grade this year. Her teacher shared that she tries very hard in school and is performing well in her classes. Marie’s favorite subject continues to be math, which she enjoys and approaches with focus and determination. When asked about her goals and worries, Marie shared that she wants to finish high school before becoming a mother, as she has seen friends who became pregnant early. This has become a strong motivation for her to stay in school and continue working hard. Marie continues to balance her responsibilities at home with her education, helping her mother with cooking and cleaning after school. She remains grateful for the support provided by Girl Power, which covers her school fees and supplies her with uniforms, shoes, and a backpack—resources that allow her to focus on her studies and pursue her goals. With her dedication, perseverance, and clear sense of purpose, Marie is determined to succeed academically and build a brighter future.

Thanks to the generous donation from Phil Vasby, Marie has been re-enrolled into school for the 2021/2022 school year. She received an incomplete for the 2020-2021 school year. Due to COVID-19 outbreak, schools in Liberia had irregular school schedule. This combined with the lack of technology in the schools, some schools made the decision to keep students in their current grade level for the 2021-2022 school year. Marie was kept in her current grade level of 2nd grade for the upcoming school year. She continues to live with her aunt, and she doesn’t know what she hopes to be when she grows up.
