Marie has achieved a significant milestone by advancing to the fifth grade! Her success is a testament to her hard work and dedication over the past year. Marie’s commitment to her studies is evident in her proactive approach to learning; she even enlisted the help of her friends for after-school tutoring sessions.

Marie’s aspiration to become a doctor reflects the pressing need for medical professionals in Liberia. In Liberia, access to healthcare services can be limited, particularly in rural areas. Doctors play a crucial role in providing essential medical care, diagnosing illnesses, and administering treatments to improve the health and well-being of the population. With a shortage of healthcare professionals, especially doctors, in Liberia, individuals like Marie who aspire to enter the medical field are essential for addressing the country’s healthcare challenges and improving healthcare access for all.

Despite the challenges she may face, Marie continues to reside with her uncle, who supports her aspirations as she pursues her dream of becoming a doctor and making a positive impact on her community.

Sixteen-year-old Marie still dreams of becoming a doctor in spite of seemingly looming odds against her. She is now in fourth grade. Even with her determination and best efforts, Marie has been unable to get a double or triple promotion which helps older students catch up with their age-appropriate grade level.  Her teacher identified Marie is in need of a tutor… option that is not affordable for her uncle whom she lives with. GPA reps encouraged Marie to seek out a student in her community to tutor her…. thereby making affordability more likely. Thanks to GPA’s amazing sponsor network for giving Marie a supportive opportunity to forge ahead with her dream.  Sponsored by: Patricia Shabaz
