Sixteen-year-old Marie still dreams of becoming a doctor in spite of seemingly looming odds against her. She is now in fourth grade. Even with her determination and best efforts, Marie has been unable to get a double or triple promotion which helps older students catch up with their age-appropriate grade level. Her teacher identified Marie is in need of a tutor…..an option that is not affordable for her uncle whom she lives with. GPA reps encouraged Marie to seek out a student in her community to tutor her…. thereby making affordability more likely. Thanks to GPA’s amazing sponsor network for giving Marie a supportive opportunity to forge ahead with her dream. Sponsored by: Patricia Shabaz

Thanks to the generous donation from Patricia Shabaz, Marie has been re-enrolled into school for the 2021/2022 school year. She received an incomplete for the 2020-2021 school year. Due to COVID-19 outbreak, schools in Liberia had irregular school schedule. This combined with the lack of technology in the schools, some schools made the decision to keep students in their current grade level for the 2021-2022 school year. Marie was kept in her current grade level of 3rd grade for the upcoming school year. She continues to live with her uncle and still wants to be a doctor when she grows up.
