Kou faced a challenging year and was unable to pass her grade due to difficulties in getting to school. The family she lived with moved far from her school, and the heavy workload at home made attending class consistently a struggle. To support her education, Kou has been placed with a new family closer to her school this year, giving her a fresh opportunity to focus on her studies. Thanks to the generous donation from Lori Fischer Hall, Kou has been re-enrolled into school for the 2021/2022 school year. She was promoted to the K-1 grade this year and still wants to be a nurse when she grows up. She continues to live with her mother’s friend.

Meet Kou, who has been generously sponsored by Lori Fischer Hall. She is 6 years old and is going to school for the first time in ABC. She lives in Gbayden, Liberia with her mother’s friend.  Kou’s mother passed away from malaria about a year ago. After her death, Kou’s mom’s friend took she and her sister in to take care for.  Her interests are playing with her sister and she hopes to be a nurse when she grows up.
