Kou faced another very challenging year. Due to being placed with a new family in a different and larger town, she was unable to complete the school year, as the move required her to transition into a new school system. Because of these disruptions, Kou remains in the first grade. Despite everything she has endured, she continues to hold on to hope and believes that with stability, she will be able to pass her class and move forward in her education. When asked about her greatest fear, Kou shared that she is afraid of being given to another family again. More than anything, she longs for stability and a consistent place where she can feel safe, supported, and able to attend school without interruption. These frequent changes have been difficult for her, but they have not taken away her determination to learn and succeed. Kou remains hopeful about her future and continues to dream of becoming a nurse one day. With the support of her sponsors and the opportunity for a stable home and school environment, she has a renewed chance to focus on her education and build confidence in herself. Thanks to the generous donation fromLori Fischer Hall, Kou has been re-enrolled into school for the 2021/2022 school year. She was promoted to the Kindergarten-1 grade this year and still wants to be a nurse when she grows up. She continues to live with her mother’s friend.

Meet Kou, who has been generously sponsored by Lori Fischer Hall. She is 6 years old and is going to school for the first time in ABC (pre-kindergarten). She lives in Gbayden, Liberia with her mother’s friend.  Kou’s mother passed away from malaria about a year ago. After her death, Kou’s mom’s friend took she and her sister in to take care for.  Her interests are playing with her sister and she hopes to be a nurse when she grows up.
