JOYCE: S49-SAN

Joyce has been promoted to sixth grade and still lives with her grandmother. Her ambition to become a doctor becomes more steadfast with each year of academic success, enhanced by the assurance of GPA scholarship support. She particularly enjoys math and science, often assisting her friends with their schoolwork and even teaching her grandmother. Additionally, she plays a significant role at home, helping with chores such as fetching water from the well, cooking after school, and assisting with dishwashing and cleaning.

Joyce was promoted to 5th grade!  Her favorite subject is math and her favorite pastime is cooking, especially cassava leaf with rice. The leaves from the cassava root plant are cropped, washed, pounded in a large handmade mortar and a long substantial pestle, and stewed with palm oil, meats (if available), and other spices.  She cooks dinner for her family.
