2025
This year, Josiah’s school was part of a government reassessment where students were retested and placed according to their learning level. As a result, Josiah was kept in his current grade. Though he felt disappointed, he shared that he is determined to try harder this year so he can pass and move forward. Josiah continues to live with his mother and siblings, where life remains challenging after his father left the family. Even so, he is still a cheerful child who simply wants the chance to learn. His desire to attend school and build a better future remains strong. This experience has encouraged Josiah to stay focused and give his best effort. With continued support and his positive spirit, he is working toward a brighter path ahead.

Josiah is a 6-year-old boy in Kindergarten-1, full of curiosity and hope for the future. His life has been shaped by hardship, as about a year ago, his father abandoned him, his mother, and his five siblings. Since then, his mother has struggled to support the family, as she is unemployed and unable to provide the basic necessities they need. Despite these challenges, Josiah remains a cheerful and hopeful child, eager to go to school and learn. At this young age, Josiah doesn’t yet know what he wants to do when he grows up, but his wish is simple—he just wants to go to school. He dreams of a better future, where he can have opportunities that were not available to him before. Josiah’s favorite food is rice with fried beans and lots of meat, a meal that brings him joy and comfort in the midst of his difficult circumstances. Though his family struggles, Josiah’s spirit is unbroken. His desire to learn and experience the world keeps him focused on the hope that one day, with education, he will be able to change his life and help his family. Sponsored by: Cynthia Kooiman
