Joetta has been promoted to the third grade this year, and her dedication to her studies continues to shine. Life at home remains difficult, and when asked if she has ever gone without food for a day, she quietly shared that she has. She explained that the hunger sometimes causes her stomach to hurt, but lying down on her stomach helps her manage the pain and even fall asleep. Despite these challenges, Joetta is incredibly grateful for the opportunity to attend school. Her dream is to use her education to rise above poverty and help her mother provide for the family. After school, she continues to work hard at home, supporting her mother and siblings however she can. Her teachers praise her as a serious, hardworking student, and her resilience and determination inspire everyone around her. Joetta’s story is one of courage, perseverance, and hope. Joetta is 12 years old and currently in the second grade. Her life took a tragic turn three years ago when her father went to their farm and was killed instantly by a falling tree while he was cutting it. The loss of her father left Joetta and her six siblings in a difficult situation, with their mother now raising the children alone. As a single widow, Joetta’s mother has struggled to provide for the family, and due to financial difficulties, she has been unable to send the children to school. Despite the hardships she faces, Joetta remains hopeful for the future. She dreams of becoming a teacher one day, a goal that motivates her to work hard and continue her education.
