2023
Jestina has been promoted to the first grade! She is a very kind and grateful child, continuously expressing her appreciation for this opportunity and her brand-new school materials. She beamed with joy as she tried on her new uniform. Her teacher reports that she did great in school, is very helpful, and loves to ask questions. Jestina still lives with her mother and dreams of becoming a nurse one day. Sponsored by:Â Joyce Jorgensen

Eight-year-old Jestina appeared quiet and shy at the beginning of our update interview. She later became comfortable and very responsive. Our interviews give students an early opportunity to experience child-adult interactions, preparing them at an early age to be comfortable in professional interactions and settings. Jestina is promoted to kindergarten-2 class! Sponsored by: Joyce Jorgensen

Thanks to the generous donation from Heather O’Brien, Jestina has been re-enrolled into school for the 2021/2022 school year. She received an incomplete for the 2020/2021 school year. Due to COVID-19 outbreak, schools in Liberia had irregular school schedule. This combined with the lack of technology in the schools, some schools made the decision to keep students in their current grade level for the 2021/2022 school year. Jestina was kept in her current grade level of K-1 grade for the upcoming school year. She continues to live with her mother and still wants to be a nurse when she grows up.

Meet Jestina, who has been generously sponsored by Heather O’Brien. She is 5 years old and is going to school for the first time this year in the ABC grade. Jestina lives in Sopea, Liberia with her single mother who has 4 children and could not afford to send them to school. Her interests are playing with friends and she hopes to be a nurse when she grows up.
