IRINA: S414-SAN

2023
Irina has been promoted to the first grade! She demonstrated remarkable perseverance, attending school diligently and missing only a few days. Irina was determined to keep pace with her peers and succeed academically, despite the challenges. In Liberia, West Africa, many children face obstacles that often prevent regular school attendance. Despite these difficulties, Irina remained steadfast in her commitment to her education, driven by her desire for success and to make her sponsor proud. She continues to live with her aunt and dreams of becoming a nurse one day. Sponsored by: Tina Hinchley

Irina was retained in kindergarten-2 class. We are not sure why she was retained but we are certain that she deserves another chance. GPA supports second chances for our sponsored students who survive and thrive in the face of challenged livelihood circumstances. Irina still lives with her aunt and desires to be a nurse one day. Thanks to the generous donation from Tina Hinchley, Irina has been re-enrolled into school for the 2021/2022 school year. She was promoted to the Kindergarten-2 grade this year and still wants to be a nurse when she grows up. Nurses and health care workers in general are sorely needed in Liberia where access to medical care is challenged by a limited number of health facilities and workers. GPA is honored to walk alongside Irina and encourage her dream of becoming a nurse. She continues to live with her aunt.

Thanks to the generous donation from Tina Hinchley, Irina has been re-enrolled into school for the 2020/2021 school year. She is in the kindergarten-1 grade this year and still wants to be a nurse when she grows up. During registration, she did not look like she was eating well or being taken care of properly. We’ve followed up with her teacher to ensure proper care is taken. She continues to live with her aunt.

Meet Irina, who has been generously sponsored by Tina Hinchley. She is 8 years old and is going to school for the first time this year, in ABC. Irina lives in Sanniquellie, Liberia with her aunt. Irina’s mother died in childbirth when Irina was 4 years old. Both Irina and her older sister were taken by their mom’s sister to raise them. Unfortunately, that aunt has three children of her own and could not afford to send both Irina and her sister to school. Irina’s sister being the older one is going to school. But Irina was not. She hopes to be a nurse when she grows up.
