Godgift’s journey to the first grade was no small feat. Living with her aunt because her mother couldn’t afford to send her to school—and lived a little too far from it—meant that she had already overcome challenges many children her age might not face. Yet, here she was, proudly promoted to the first grade, her bright smile reflecting the determination in her heart. At school, Godgift was a quiet but focused student. She worked diligently, her small hands carefully gripping her pencil as she practiced her letters and numbers. Her teachers admired her perseverance and resilience, knowing how much effort it took for her to be in school. But it was after school that Godgift’s true strength shone. Once the school day ended, her responsibilities at home began. She would walk to the nearby creek with a bucket in hand to fetch water. The walk was long and tiring, but Godgift didn’t complain. She knew her aunt depended on her, and she was proud to help. After bringing the water home, she helped with cooking, carefully preparing meals under her aunt’s guidance. Once the food was ready, she turned her attention to the yard, tidying up and ensuring everything was in order. Her small frame moved with determination, her mind focused on completing each task. Only after the day’s work was done, when the sky turned dark and the stars began to peek out, did Godgift sit down to do her homework. By the faint glow of a lantern, she practiced her writing and read aloud the lessons she had learned in school. Despite her exhaustion, she gave her studies her full attention, determined to do well. Being promoted to the first grade was a testament to Godgift’s hard work and resilience. Her teachers often said she was one of the most hardworking students they had ever met. In the face of hardship, she remained steadfast, her eyes always looking ahead to the future. Godgift’s story is one of hope and perseverance. She is proof that with determination and a strong heart, even the most difficult circumstances can be overcome. She dreams of a brighter future, one where her hard work today will open doors to opportunities tomorrow. Sponsored by: Katherine and Dave Batterman
