Ekie faced significant challenges this past year, which ultimately led to her repeating the third grade. After her father, who had abandoned the family, passed away, she had to travel to where he had been living and was away from school for two months. This extended absence made it difficult for her to keep up with her lessons, despite her best efforts to catch up when she returned. While in school, Ekie excelled in drawing, which she described as her favorite class. Her teachers noted that she was a very serious and dedicated student during the time she was present. Unfortunately, the emotional and academic toll of her father’s passing made it hard for her to regain her footing, resulting in her repeating the grade. Despite these setbacks, Ekie remains determined and resilient. She is ready to make this year a fresh start and is committed to doing her best. We are confident that with the right support, she will thrive and continue to grow. Thank you to everyone who has encouraged and believed in Ekie during this challenging time. Ekie lives with her grandmother and three siblings in Flowin, Liberia. Their father abandoned the home leaving the mother to care for the children. Her mother remarried to a man who did not want the children to live in his home. Ekie’s mother sent them to live with her grandmother. Ekie is in Kindergarten-2 this year. She wants to be a teacher one day and is very thankful for the gift of a scholarship. Sponsored by: Joyce Jorgensen
