Sometimes one’s hopes and dreams is all that is constant in their life! Fourteen-year-old Serena has been through a lot. Her father passed away when she was just a little one. We are not sure about the whereabouts of Serena’s mother, but Serena is hanging in there as she struggles to fit into her grandmother’s loving, but over extended, household. The one constant thing in Serena’s life is that GPA has stood alongside her pursuit of education since she began school. We are delighted and excited to journey with Serena in realizing her academic goals. With the support of our amazing sponsors, and given Serena’s own determination, her dream of becoming a nurse will surely be realized. Sponsored by: Jennifer Hansen
Thanks for the generous donation from Jennifer Hansen, Serena has been re-enrolled into school for the 2019-2020 school year.
We are pleased to announce that Serena was promoted from K-1 to K-2 this year. Liz Schmit, thank you for your sponsorship and giving your student a gift of education.
Meet Serena, who has been generously sponsored by Liz Schmit. She is 9 years old and in the ABC this year. She lives in Suakazue, Liberia with her grandmother. Serena’s father passed away on July 25, 2018 from malaria and she moved in with her grandmother. However, her grandmother is unemployed and could not afford to send Serena to school. She hopes to be a nurse when she grows up. Liz, thank you for giving Serena a gift of education and an opportunity for a better future. (Serena had a major case of scabies during the time of our visit. Also, in some parts of Liberia, when a child’s parent dies, the child’s hair is shaved for new growth, new opportunities and new beginning. Hints, that’s why Serena’s hair was shaved in this picture)
