BLESSING: S11-SUA

November

2023

Fourteen year old Blessing was promoted to fifth grade.  Blessing is determined to do all she can to get a double promotion this school year.  Double promotion is a supportive option given to older students that requires them to work hard to obtain a B+ or above GPA and receive a double promotion which helps them catch up with their age appropriate grade level. Blessing continues to live with her grandfather.

Meet Blessing, who has been generously sponsored by Mariner and Natasha Hernandez. She is 9 years old and in the K-2 this year. Blessing lives in Suakazue, Liberia with her grandfather. Not long after the death of her father, Blessings’s mother was diagnosed with dementia. (Liberia doesn’t have an institution for people with dementia, therefore, they live on the streets and are referred to as “crazy people”). Blessing’s grandfather is unemployed with no income and couldn’t afford to send her to school. The town chief told Girl Power Africa: “their survival depends on the kindness of their neighbors”. Her interest is playing her doll and she hopes to be a representative when she grows up.
