Bernice was promoted to fifth grade! She is 13 years old and still dreams of becoming a nurse one day. Her favorite subject is math and science. After school she helps her mother with cooking dinner for the family. She enjoys cooking and her favorite soup is Cassava Leaf Soup served over rice. It is a traditional dish made with cassava leaves cooked in a flavorful sauce typically containing ingredients like palm oil, onions, peppers, and sometimes meat or fish. Bernice was promoted to 4th grade! She has been re-enrolled into school for the 2022/2023 school year. She continues to live with her mother and dream of becoming a nurse one day. Nurses and health care workers in general are sorely needed in Liberia where access to medical care is challenged by a limited number of health facilities and workers. Her favorite part about school is learning to read and making friends. She still wants to be a nurse when she grows up. She continues to live with her mother.

Thanks to the generous donation from Britt & Tim Freiberg, Bernice has been re-enrolled into school for the 2020/2021 school year. She is in the 2nd grade this year and excited for a new school year. During our interview, ten-year-old Bernice was all smiles. She’s been performing very well in her school lessons and is a hard worker. She still wants to be a nurse when she grows up. She continues to live with her mother.

Bernice has been generously re-sponsored by Britt & Tim Freiberg. She is 8 years old and was promoted to kindergarten-2 this year. Bernice lives in Sanniquellie, Liberia with her mother. Her mother is unemployed and could not afford to send her to school and she came to Girl Power for assistance to go to school. Her interests are singing, and she now hopes to be a nurse when she grows up.
