2024
Austina was promoted to the second grade this year. Unfortunately, she was sick during the school distribution and was unable to come for her materials, but her materials were left with the school principal. According to the principal, Austina is doing very well in school. Although she is very shy, she is excelling in her lessons and making great progress. Sponsored by: Phil Vasby

Twelve-year-old Austina was retained in kindergarten-2 class. Her principal reported Austina missed a lot of days in school due to her mother’s dependence on her helping them with the family’s subsistence farming activities. This is sometimes the fate of older students like Austina. Some households cannot sustain hiring people to work on their farms and the children must step up. A discussion with her mother assured us that they will find a way around this obstacle. Austina was happy for a second chance to complete her kindergarten-2 class. Sponsored by: Phil Vasby

Thanks to the generous donation from Phil Vasby, Austina has been re-enrolled into school for the 2021/2022 school year. She is a determined girl. She was sick and not feeling well but still got the strength to walk all the way to school registration. We are proud to announce she was promoted to the K-2 grade this year and still wants to be a mid-wife when she grows up. She continues to live with her mother.

Meet Austina, who has been generously sponsored by Phil Vasby. She is 10 years old and in the K-1 grade this year. She lives in Sopea, Liberia with her mother. Her father is from Guinea. He came to Liberia and had 5 children with her mother. Soon after the 5th child was born, he abandoned them and went back to Guinea. Her interests are to help birth babies and she hopes to be a midwife when she grows up.
