Alice faced a very difficult year and was unable to complete the school year. Although she remains enrolled in school, Alice became pregnant and felt embarrassed to come during the distribution of school materials. According to the school registrar, she did continue attending school, but chose not to collect her materials publicly. To ensure she was still supported, her school supplies were respectfully received on her behalf by the registrar. Last year, Alice is repeating the fifth grade and showed a strong interest in social studies. She continues to live with her aunt and has always carried many responsibilities at home. After school, Alice helps by going to the market to buy food, cooking for the family, cleaning the house, and caring for younger children before settling down to study at night by lantern light. Her determination and sense of responsibility have always been evident, even during challenging times. This year has tested Alice emotionally and physically, but she remains a young woman with hopes for the future. She once shared her dream of becoming a teacher, and with encouragement, support, and compassion, she still has the opportunity to continue her education when she is ready. We are grateful that her materials were secured for her and that she was not forgotten during this difficult season. Thank you to her sponsor for standing by Alice during a challenging year and for helping ensure that she remains connected to education and hope for the future. Sponsored by: Tina Hinchley

Alice was promoted to the 5th grade this year, with her favorite subject being social studies. Although she loves to participate in school activities, her responsibilities at home limit her time. After school, she goes to the local market to buy food, then heads home to cook for the family. Once she finishes cooking, she cleans the house and takes care of the younger children before finally settling down at night to do her homework by lantern light. She continues to live with her aunt and remains determined to become a teacher one day. Sponsored by: Tina Hinchley

Meet Alice, who has been generously sponsored by Susan Holub. She is 11 years old and is in the 2nd grade this year. She lives in Gbayden, Liberia with her aunt. Alice’s mother died when a snake bit her while she was working on their farm, leaving behind Alice and her sister, Elizabeth. Her interests are helping her aunt and playing with her sister and friends. She hopes to be a teacher when she grows up.
