Victoria continues her educational journey with the support of Girl Power Africa and will remain in Grade 1 this year as she works to strengthen her learning foundation. This decision was made to support her long-term success and ensure she is well prepared before advancing. She remains enrolled and continues attending school regularly with encouragement and support, allowing her to build confidence and progress at her own pace.
Note to Sponsor:
This year in Liberia, many public schools conducted a reassessment of students. Based on the results, some children—including your sponsored student—were placed in a lower grade or asked to repeat a grade to better match their current learning level. This adjustment is not due to any wrongdoing or lack of effort—it is simply to ensure they are in the grade where they can learn, grow, and succeed with confidence. Thank you for your continued support and understanding.

Victoria was promoted to the first grade this year, and her determination shines brightly. Despite being sick for about a month during the school year, she worked hard to catch up on her lessons and excel in class. Her favorite subject is spelling, where she truly shines, and her teachers have noted her impressive progress. Victoria is known for her cheerful and entertaining personality. She loves making her classmates smile and laugh, often bringing joy and energy to the classroom. While her enthusiasm sometimes leads her to go a little overboard, her teachers adore her and describe her as a total joy to have in class. Her resilience, hardworking nature, and infectious positivity make her stand out. We are incredibly proud of Victoria’s accomplishments and grateful for the support that allows her to continue thriving in school! Sponsored by: Lori Kilstrom Higgins

Four-year-old Victoria is in pre-kindergarten class and lives with her mother. Her father passed away from malaria two years ago and her mother was severely burned while preparing hot water on a coal pot (a device used by 80 percent of Liberian households for cooking). These tragic circumstances limits Victoria’s mom’s capability to care for her family. Victoria is looking forward to going to school and her mom extends thanks for the gift of a scholarship. Victoria does not yet know what she wants to be in the future. Sponsored by: Donations from General Funds
