Rose is ten years old and in first grade. Her father abandoned the family and Rose live with her mother and six siblings. Her mother does odd jobs and subsistence farming to make ends meet. It is a challenge but one that her mother meets with a dignified sense of purpose. The gift of a scholarship for one of her children was unexpected and appreciated. Rose wants to be a doctor!
