Betty is now 9 years old and has been promoted to the 2nd grade this year. She proudly shared that her favorite subject is spelling. She enjoys learning new words and practicing them in class. Betty continues to live with her single father and siblings. After school, her main responsibility is to go to the creek with her friends to fetch water so her family can bathe in the evening. The walk is not easy—it takes about 20 to 30 minutes each way. That means nearly an hour of walking while carrying water back home. When asked if she likes doing this chore, Betty smiled and said she enjoys it when she goes with her friends because she feels safe and not afraid. However, when she has to go alone, she admitted that she can feel very scared because the path is lonely and quiet. Even so, she continues to do her part to help her family without complaint. Despite the hardships she faces, Betty remains hopeful and determined. She still dreams of becoming a doctor one day. Her courage, responsibility, and positive spirit at such a young age are truly inspiring.
