JUNE 2022:  Victoria’s husband abandoned her and their two children for another
woman. The pervasive tolerance of common law marriage puts women like
Victoria at risk.  Liberian common law marriage is a culturally acceptable and
practiced arrangement with zero lawfully enforced benefits to the woman and,
regrettably, her children, should the man leave.  At 26 years old, Victoria has youth
in her favor and does subsistence farming to provide for her family.  Girl Power is
sponsoring one of her children in school – one less bill for Victoria to worry
about.  Thanks to the generous donation from the Girl Power Africa General Funds,
Victoria was provided a farming supplies Empowerment Package.
