June 2022: Fifty-six-year-old Tonkor is widowed and lives in Gbeleyee, Nimba County with her children and grandchildren. Tonkor said she had fourteen children but ten died of malaria and her husband died ten years ago from a condition that caused a swollen abdomen. Tonkor said there was no money to take him to a hospital for treatment and they used herbal remedies. Regrettably, many people succumb to treatable illnesses as destitute families are forced to resort to traditional treatment options. Tonkor is providing for her family through subsistence farming. A donation from the Girl Power Africa General Fund has provided Tonkor with a farming supplies Empowerment Package.
