June 2022:  Fifty-two-year-old Oretha is a widowed mother of three living in Duazon (Monrovia), Liberia. Her husband was the main breadwinner for the family and, with his death, the family spiraled into a situation of desperation and despair. Oretha developed a severe case of hypertension which requires the equivalent of $8.00 USD monthly to purchase her medicine – a daunting amount for a family barely able to provide one meal a day. As young adults, Oretha’s children are old enough to look for daily labor to help their mom with providing for the home.
Oretha received a Business Development Package which allows her to sell consumable commodities from her home.  A donation from Girl Power Africa’s General Funds has given Oretha and her children a hand up.
