ORETHA: E202-DUA
2017:
RECIPIENT: Oretha – Age 21
EMPOWERED BY: Lana Howard Meyers
Oretha is a mother of a 4-year-old son. Oretha was 16 and in the 9th grade when she found out she was pregnant. The father was her high school sweetheart. She had no choice but to drop out of school to deliver and raise the baby. Recently her boyfriend, the father of her son, kicked her out because he has a new girlfriend. Oretha told me during her interview with Girl Power that, although she’s currently working as a cook for $40 a month, but it is not enough to support her and her son. She dreams of one day going back to school to complete her high school education. By owning her business, she will be able to set her own schedule. This will not only allow her to support her family, but it will also give her the ability to go back to school and complete her education. Thanks to generous donations from Julie Lyons-Speropulos and Lana Howard Meyers, Oretha will now be able to start her business. These are photos of Oretha receiving her new supply of selling goods to now be able to successfully start her business.
