KOU: E405-GBA

JUNE 2022: Kou lives in Gbapa, Nimba County and is a thirty-two old divorced
(and currently single) mother of four children ranging in age from 16 to 6. Kou
provides for her family through subsistence farming activities. Along with her four
children, Kou also supports four extended family members in her small household.
Girl Power wondered why Kou would take on the challenge of supporting
extended family when she finds it challenging to support her own children.  Kou
recounted her experience of coming from a very large family and, as is the cultural
practice, her parents sent her to live with extended family for assistance with her
care.  Kou’s resourceful and brave spirit helps her to extend her meager resources
to provide for her family.  The gift of a farming supplies Empowerment Package is
helpful to Kou in her journey to provide for her family.  Thanks to a donation from
the Girl Power Africa General Funds, which helps Kou to sustain herself and her
family. Kou will be selling in the local market to help sustain her and her family.
