HELENA: E394-GBA

JUNE 2022: 52-year-old Helena is a widow who lives in Gbapa, Nimba County. Helena has four children.  Her late husband provided for his family as a subsistence farmer and when he passed away, Helena was unable to cope with the strenuous demands of raising her children while maintaining daily farming activities.  As is the custom, Helena and her young family moved to another town to live with her husband’s brother and his family of 6.  Less than a year later, she
ended up moving back to Gbapa because, though very supportive, her brother-in-law could not sustain the needs of two households. She reverted to petty marketing; selling dry goods to earn a small profit to maintain her family and is thankful for the opportunity to expand her market through the gift of a baking Empowerment Package. Thanks to the generous donation from the Girl Power
Africa General Funds
, Helena will be selling baked goods in the local market to help sustain her and her family.
