Yah shared that she is now in the second grade. Science is her favorite subject, and her teacher reported that she performed well in her studies last year. She is grateful for Girl Power Africa’s support, which helps her stay happy and motivated in school. Yah helps at home with cleaning and shared that her grandmother passed away last year. This year in Liberia, many public schools conducted a reassessment of students. Based on the results, some children—including your sponsored student—were placed in a lower grade or asked to repeat a grade to better match their current learning level. This adjustment is not due to any wrongdoing or lack of effort—it is simply to ensure they are in the grade where they can learn, grow, and succeed with confidence. Yah was promoted to the third grade this year. Unfortunately, she was unable to attend the school distribution, but her materials were left with the school principal. According to the principal, Yah is an excellent student who demonstrates a strong work ethic and dedication to her studies. In addition to her academic achievements, Yah was entrusted with the important role of noise controller in her class, a responsibility she takes seriously. Yah has successfully moved up to the 2nd grade and has re-enrolled in school for another year. Her teacher notes her quiet demeanor but recognizes her sharp intellect. At home, she lends a hand to her grandmother, assisting with chores like fetching water from a nearby well, cooking, laundry, and dishes. Thanks to the generous donation from Jolene and Olivia Ibeling, Yah has been re-enrolled into school for the 2019/2020 school year.

Meet Yah who has been generously sponsored by Jolene and Olivia Ibeling. She is 8 years old and very shy. This is her first time in school, in ABC. She lives in Barpa, Liberia with her grandmother. Yah’s mother had her at the age of 15 and could not afford to support a young baby. She was given to her grandmother who is unable to send Yah to school. Yah dreams of going to school to become a medical doctor when she grows up to help her grandma and people in her village.
