Surprise is continuing her education this year in the second grade after a reassessment of schools in her area showed she was not yet ready for the higher grade level. Although being placed back one grade was disappointing, Surprise shared that she felt grateful for the opportunity to continue her schooling through her sponsorship. She admitted she felt guilty but has promised to work very hard this year, hoping not only to pass but possibly even earn a double promotion. According to her school principal, Surprise is a very polite, easygoing student and simply a good child to have in school. She continues to show a positive attitude and respect toward her teachers and classmates. Surprise still lives with her grandmother so she can attend school, and she balances her studies with helping on the farm after school. Her willingness to keep trying, even after setbacks, shows her resilience and determination to build a better future. With continued support and her renewed commitment, Surprise is motivated to improve her learning and make this year a successful one. Sponsored by: Anonymous Donor

Eleven-year-old Surprise did not have a great school year. She was retained in the kindergarten-2 class. Surprise’s favorite subject is reading in which she had the highest mark in school. She is hopeful of doing better next school year. She still wants to be a teacher one day. Sponsored by: Donations from General Funds

Meet Surprise, who has been generously sponsored by an Anonymous donor (Mohamad). She is 9 years old and is in the K-1 grade this year. She lives in Kialay, Liberia with her mother. Her father abandoned his family when she was still a baby. Her mother is a farmer and doesn’t make enough to care for her children. Her interests are helping more children learn and she hopes to be a teacher when she grows up.
