Last academic year was not a good year for little Serena. She lost her grandmother who lived nearby, and she was very close to. This led to low academic performance, and she barely passed to second grade. Her favorite subject is “Moral Education” and she exhibits clear handwriting skills. After our interview with Serena, she was feeling very motivated to have a great year this year. Sponsored by: Donations from General Funds

Thanks to the generous donation from Stephen Bablitch, Serena has been re-enrolled into school for the 2021/2022 school year. She received an incomplete for the 2020/2021 school year. Due to COVID-19 outbreak, schools in Liberia had irregular school schedule. This combined with the lack of technology in the schools, some schools made the decision to keep students in their current grade level for the 2021/2022 school year. Serena was kept in her current grade level of 1st grade for the upcoming school year. She continues to live with her aunt and still wants to be a teacher when she grows up.

Meet Serena, who has been generously sponsored by an Anonymous donor (Mohamad). She is 9 years old and is in the 1st grade this year. She lives in Zorgowee, Liberia with her aunt. Serena’s mother died during childbirth, and no one knows who her father is. Her interests are playing with dolls and she hopes to be a teacher when she grows up.
